Understanding Deaf Cultural Trauma & How It Affects Your Work
August 21 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm CDT
The Deaf Community has a long history of challenges, especially those that conflict with a Deaf person’s basic needs. The shared cultural trauma has directly affected how hearing people experience and support the Deaf Community.
One way to contribute to the healing of this cultural trauma is by building stronger hearing allies. Genuine hearing allies create better leaders, more substantial businesses, a happier community, and more fulfilling careers. During this training, we will dive into the different aspects of cultural trauma, define hearing guilt, and identify microaggressions and triggers when it comes to the Deaf Community.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the historical context of audism and describe how and why they are maintained.
- Define cultural trauma.
- List three effects of cultural trauma.
- List three ways on how to be more effective in their work with the Deaf Community.
